Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration

So you could not keep watch with me for one hour? Watch and pray…

The Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration Chapel was opened in August 2000. This Chapel is a place where all are invited to adore and worship Jesus who is truly present in the Blessed Sacrament. It is a place of silent prayer with vocal prayers only permitted at 12pm, 6pm, 12am and 6am when people in the Chapel are invited to say the Angelus (or Regina Coeli during Easter period) and when the Divine Mercy Chaplet and Rosary are recited in commemoration of the Hour when Jesus gave up His Life for us. It is done at 3a.m., not 3p.m, as the number of adorers is generally lower and also to help the people in the chapel to stay awake.

The Chapel is open on the basis that there has to be a regular adorer (that is, someone who registers himself/herself for a particular hour on a particular day) for each hour of the day, for each day of the week to ensure Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament is not left alone. Scheduled adorers keep the Chapel open for others to come and visit Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament.

adoration_pic1The Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration Committee was set up in August 2000. The committee comprises of the Pastoral team and a few scheduled adorers. The main task of the committee is to ensure that Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament is never left alone. This is done by communicating with scheduled adorers verbally, by phone or through mail. The committee members also have a task of encouraging new members to take up regular hours of adoration. The members also try to ensure that there is order in the Chapel and may assist with decoration, maintenance of the Chapel library and keeping parishioners informed on the activities of the Chapel.
The goal of the members of this committee is to encourage reverence and adoration of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament.

This goal can only be achieved when all come to know that Jesus is really present in the Blessed Sacrament. As a result the task of the committee is to bring all to understand the meaning of Holy Mass, the Sacraments, the Sacramentals, the role of Blessed Virgin Mary in relation to the Blessed Sacrament, according to the magisterium of the Church through the available means at our disposal.

The committee hopes to achieve this task in the year 2005 through:

  • Catechisis on the Mass (ongoing-1st Sunday of the month)
  • Eucharistic Congress
  • Talks on the Eucharist
  • Quarterly magazine
  • Appreciation of current scheduled adorers during the celebration of the 5-year anniversary.
