Charities Committee

Charities Committee members distributing food stuff to the needy of the parish

The Charities Committee focuses on the needy, the poor, the sick, the orphans, the street children and families, the prisoners and the slum dwellers. The Committee also responds to emergency cases of disaster in the various parts of the country and the world at large. The Charities committee is rooted in the Sacred Scriptures, the practice of the Church furthers, the Teaching of the Church and the general humane acts that call for goodness to be done and evil to be avoided. In the Holy Bible, there is a great connection between morality with the will of God. Benevolence and charity towards the poor with service to God the Most High are tied together. (cf.Lev 19:1 – 3, 13 – 14, 16 – 18, 33 – 34). Christ Himself put it even clearer, «Whatever you do to the least of my brothers and sisters that you do unto me….» (cf. Matt: 25:31 – 46).

We plan to have two formation talks this year.
Flower sale was held in June during the Feast of our Lady.
The charity event is planned for 22nd October, 2016 at Karura Forest. This year parishioners will be encouraged to recite the rosary as they walk; in tandem with the theme for this year – Marian devotion in consecration to Jesus. The walk will continue being an annual event with parishioners being encouraged to use the occasion to interact with one another.
Two prison visits have been done this year.
After a very successful charity event held last year at Karura Forest, we are also planning for the same this year. We are inviting all of you to partner with us. Charities Committee feeds 165 families both from Consolata Shrine and St. Joseph Deep Sea. We also pay partial school Fees for 64 students in high school up to university. We continue to apply our formulated policy when deciding which students to assist with emphasis on academic performance and continued monitoring. We shall also now be able to assist up to five students in public universities.
